CNN team in southern Israel observes smoking rocket downed during latest assault from Iran
A smoldering rocket landed on a highway in southern Israel, close to a CNN team that was observing live interceptions of Iranian aerial attacks in the early hours of Saturday.
“There were a lot of loud explosions and impacts, and you can see here, this missile right behind me lying in the road — it’s still smoking,” reported CNN’s Nic Robertson from the scene. “This was from the latest salvo of the Iranian missiles intercepted.”
“It’s not clear whether this was an interceptor missile or one of the Iranian projectiles,” Robertson added.
Iran has launched a series of strikes on Israel in recent hours, as Israeli forces scramble to defend against the barrage amid blaring air raid sirens across the country.

China Condemns Israel’s Actions in Iran, Urges De-escalation
China has strongly condemned what it described as Israel’s “violation of Iran’s sovereignty” and called on Israel to halt “all risky military actions,” according to its ambassador to the United Nations.
Speaking at an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Friday, Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, expressed deep concern over the potential fallout from Israel’s actions. He warned that escalating tensions in the region would benefit no one.
“China condemns Israel’s violation of Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” Fu said. “We oppose any move that intensifies conflict or expands hostilities.”
He urged Israel to “immediately stop all risky military actions” and called on all parties involved to pursue diplomatic solutions.
Fu’s remarks came hours after China’s Foreign Ministry voiced similar concerns, saying Beijing was “highly concerned” about the serious consequences that could result from Israel’s attack on Iran.
Israeli envoy to US says country 'in war' with Iranian regime, as he confirms one killed in strikes
Israeli Ambassador Says One Killed, Dozens Injured in Iranian Strikes
An Iranian missile attack on Israel has killed one woman and injured approximately 40 others, according to Israel’s ambassador to the United States.
Speaking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Ambassador Yechiel Leiter said, “We faced three salvos of ballistic missiles fired from Iran today—about 150 in total.”
Leiter warned that Iran, which he claimed possesses around 2,000 ballistic missiles, is likely to continue launching further attacks. He accused Tehran of deliberately targeting civilians, while emphasizing that Israel’s conflict is with the Iranian regime—not its people.
“Israel is at war—not with the people of Iran—but with a regime determined to acquire nuclear weapons,” he said.
Leiter also addressed Israel’s ongoing efforts to strike Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, saying it was too early to measure the full impact.
“Ask me in four or five days,” he said. “After our military assesses the damage, I’ll have a better sense of how much of Iran’s nuclear capability has been neutralized.”
Based on Israel’s current assessment, Leiter claimed the country could come “very close” to fully dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
