Ukraine war briefing: Trump says US looking at providing Kyiv with more Patriot missiles
Before the Wednesday meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was willing to purchase more Patriot missile systems if the US was not willing to donate them. He described the closed-door meeting with Trump as “long and substantive,” while Trump said the meeting “couldn’t have been nicer.”

Mark Rutte told Reuters that no NATO member is naive about Russia, and that all alliance members “have more or less the same assessment” of Moscow.

He added that the direction NATO is taking shows Europeans will take on more responsibility for Ukraine’s military aid, but the United States will still be “very much involved with intelligence-sharing, with also practical military support,” including potentially air defense systems. “I think there will still be a huge, big American involvement,” he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that close ties between Europe and the United States under Donald Trump are essential for Ukraine to defeat Russia’s invasion, as he also called for a tribunal to prosecute Vladimir Putin.

Following his meeting with Trump earlier on Wednesday, Zelenskyy made a passionate appeal for strong transatlantic unity.
“We need a strong connection with him [Trump],” Zelenskyy told the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. “We need unity between Europe and the United States and we will prevail,” he said, adding, “We need unity in Europe first of all.”
